Has anyone here had an apicoectomy? I’d like to understand what the procedure feels like, how long recovery takes, and whether the benefits outweigh the discomfort and possible risks.

I had an apicoectomy explained to me as a fairly focused procedure, usually done when inflammation or infection remains after a root canal. The area is numbed, so the procedure itself should not be painful, although some soreness and swelling afterward are possible. For a clearer overview of apicoectomy surgery, I’d recommend reading before discussing it with your dentist.

That helps clarify things. I’d also ask the dentist about expected swelling, pain management, and how soon normal activities can resume after the procedure.

Good point. I think knowing the recovery timeline beforehand makes the decision easier. I’d also ask whether an apicoectomy is the best option for the specific tooth.
