Have you ever wondered what your life would be like if you were born in another country, pursued a wild career, or made drastically different choices? While we only get one shot at our real lives, the digital world offers a fascinating and often hilarious alternative. Enter Bitlife , a text-based life simulator that lets you live out countless virtual lives from birth to death, all from the comfort of your phone or browser.
If you're new to this addictive game, let's walk through how you can start your first of many digital existences.
Getting Started: From Birth to First Steps Your journey begins, quite literally, at birth. You are randomly assigned a name, gender, country of birth, and two parents with their own stats (like generosity, smarts, and craziness). The core of the game is the "Age" button. Each time you press it, you advance one year in your virtual life.
In your early years, your options are limited. You can spend time with your family, visit the doctor, and once you start school, you have new actions like studying harder or getting into trouble. These early choices, however small, begin to shape your character's core stats: Happiness, Health, Smarts, and Looks. These four bars are your primary indicators of well-being and will influence everything you do later in life.
The Prime of Your Life: Navigating Adulthood Once you turn 18, the game truly opens up. This is where the real fun begins. Will you go to university and rack up student debt to become a doctor or lawyer? Or will you skip higher education and try to become a famous actor, a social media star, or even a crime lord?
The "Activities" and "Assets" tabs become your best friends. You can:
Find a Job: From a humble dishwasher to a CEO, the career paths are vast. Manage Relationships: Go on dates, get married, have children, or navigate messy divorces. Handle Your Finances: Buy cars, houses, and even private jets. Or, you could gamble it all away at the casino. Engage in Crime: Shoplift, burgle homes, or attempt grand theft auto. Be warned, though—getting caught has serious consequences for your health and freedom! Random events will constantly pop up, forcing you to make decisions that can drastically alter your life's path. An unexpected inheritance, a sudden illness, or a workplace dilemma keeps every life fresh and unpredictable.
Tips for a Life Well-Lived (or Not) While there's no "right" way to play, here are a few tips to get the most out of your experience:
Mind Your Stats: Keep an eye on your four main bars. Low happiness can lead to depression, while poor health can end your life prematurely. Going to the gym, meditating, and spending time with loved ones are great ways to keep them high. Experiment Freely: Don't be afraid to live a chaotic life! The goal isn't always to be perfect. Try to complete achievements, like becoming a monarch or living past 120. Some of the most memorable stories come from failed attempts and disastrous choices. Read Everything: As a text-based game, the humor and charm of BitLife lie in the descriptions and scenarios. Taking a moment to read the pop-ups makes the experience much richer. A New Life Awaits BitLife isn't a game about winning; it's a sandbox for storytelling. It's about seeing where different choices lead, whether that's to a Nobel Prize or a long prison sentence. At the end of each life, you're presented with a summary and a gravestone, a final memento of your digital journey. Then, with a simple tap, you can start all over again. So go ahead, start a new life and see what strange and wonderful story you can create.
